I'm having trouble getting filters to show up in a dashboard I'm building in Tableau Desktop. I added each of the dimensions and measures. Right-click on a filter in the page of interest. When you've finished analyzing the filtered data, you can clear the Filters, to see all the data again. In addition to filtering for the top or bottom items, you can use a Value Filter to show a specific portion of the grand total amount.
In the screenshot below, you can see that the grand total sales amount is , Ten percent of the grand total is 66,, and you can use a Top 10 filter to find the top or bottom dates combine to total at least that amount. Another way to use the Top 10 Value Filter is to find the items that make up a specific sum.
For example, from the order dates with the lowest sales amounts, which order dates would combine to total at least , in sales. To see only the bottom selling order dates that contribute to , of the total sales, follow these steps. The results change, to show only the 6 lowest order dates, because their combined sales are at least , As you can see in the pivot table shown below, the bottom 5 order dates only total 98,, so the 6th lowest order date is also included in the Value Filter results, achieve our , minimum.
The selection boxes in the Top 10 Filter dialog cannot be linked to worksheet cells, to get a value. However, you can use an Excel macro to get the values that have been entered on a worksheet. In the screen shot below, when you select from the drop down lists in the yellow cells, a Top Ten filter is applies to the OrderMth field, with the settings from cells E1 and E2. This example is in the download file, on the Top10Filter sheet. This happens because both pivot tables are connected by the slicer.
This solution allows us to create formulas based on the list of applied filter items in the pivot table. We can use this in all types of scenarios for creating interactive reports, dashboards and financial models.
The possibilities are endless. Solution 3 is an example of how to use the results in a formula. The list of filter items can also be joined into one list of comma separated values in one cell. This is nice if you want to display the list right next to the pivot table. It's just more work to setup. Again, for this to work we will need to implement solutions 1 and 2 first.
Here are the steps. Checkout the video above for more details. There are a lot of options with this solution. We can change the delimiter to a different character besides a comma. We can even use the line break character CHAR 10 to list each item on a new line in the same cell.
It is just more work to setup. Well, there are 3 ways to list and display the filter items on the worksheet. The magic here is in the slicer that allows us to create connections between pivot tables. Thanks for taking the time to share your knowledge. Very clear and concise in an easy to digest format. I hope that makes sense?? For example, I might have 20 different types of widget so 20 different SKU. I can generate that list easily from a different Excel sheet using Sort or Heading Filters. At the moment I have to go into the filter and check the 20 different boxes one by one. I hope that makes sense. However, when I select the drop down arrow to select the attribute, I get to the complete list instead of the filtered list based on my selections through slicers.
